Unquestionably VenusWhen you look at Brittany Evans, it's hard to believe that she was not always confident about her looks. But self-doubt once drove her out of the beauty game. "A few years ago, I tried swimsuit modeling," she said. "I was in a few competitions, but then I dropped out. I felt that I was not tall enough and not good enough" to be a success.

![]() | Ms. Evans hardly seems short. She a perfectly proportioned 5 feet 2. And her beauty is as undeniable as sunshine at noon. But when she was younger, perhaps intimidated by gorgeous competitors, she didn't feel ready to be a model. She opted for a career in retail management instead. Fortunately, the bashful blonde had second thoughts. Maybe it was maturity, maybe it was a lot of sincere compliments, maybe it was just a good look in the mirror. Whatever the reason, she took another spin on the model-go-round. |
| And on Sept. 29, 2000, she did something that should remove all doubts. She won the Venus International Model Search 2000. She beat out stunning women from around the world, many of whom appear on these pages. She also won a puppy. "It's a girl," Ms. Evans says of the perky little German shepherd that she was awarded by Harrison K-9 Security Services. "Her name is Venus."

| With the demands of a busy modeling career, the Venus winner won't always be able to take the dog with her. To ensure its well-being, Ms. Evans is living with her family again for now. So Venus the pooch is always home, even if her owner is jetting off to a far-away photo shoot. Maybe we're talking too much about the dog. As you can guess, Ms. Evans won many other valuable and exciting prizes at the Venus International Model Search. She's still a bit overwhelmed by some of the opportunities opening up for her. But Venus the puppy is special. Venus the puppy would love Brittany Evans even if she weren't the least bit beautiful. And for a girl who once had doubts about her looks, that's kind of nice.
