Rocky but not shaky Hilary Cruz of Colorado was crowned Miss Teen USA in Pasadena, Calif., on Aug. 24, 2007. She is the first girl from her state to win the title. The pageant was telecast on NBC-TV. The first runner-up was Alyssa Campanella of New Jersey, and the second runner-up was Kaitlin Coble of North Carolina. The third runner-up was Lauren Upton of South Carolina, and the fourth runner-up was Chelsea Welch of West Virginia. The Photogenic winner was Allison Farrow of Maryland, and the Congeniality winner was Anne Elise Parks of Mississippi. |

| Ms. Cruz assumes the crown at a critical time. During the reign of her predecessor, Katie Blair of Montana, the pageant was tainted by a scandal that mostly involved Miss USA, Tara Conner. Ms. Conner almost lost her crown about public reports of excessive partying, underage drinking and drug use. Ms. Blair's involvement in the party scene was more limited, but it was enough to cause the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving to sever ties with the Miss Teen USA organization. |

| There had been speculation that this was the last year for Miss Teen USA to be televised. The pageant, which is a division of Miss Universe Inc. and therefore co-owned by NBC and Donald Trump, was not included in an announcement that the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants had been renewed. But at the end of the telecast, emcee Mario Lopez indicated that the teen contest would air again in 2008. |
