Looking good for Louisiana

Shelley Hennig of Louisiana was crowned Miss Teen USA on Aug. 6, 2004, in Palm Springs, Calif.

The first runner-up was Sonya Balmores of Hawaii, and the second runner-up was Helen Marie Salas of Nevada. The third runner-up was Amanda Williams of Maryland, and the fourth runner-up was Tiffany Stroud of Tennessee.

Ms. Hennig, an aspiring broadcaster, was described in a PNB preliminary report on the contest as "fun and spontaneous," not "canned." She is the first girl from her state to win Miss Teen USA, although Louisiana has played host to the pageant several times.

Others among the 10 semifinalists were Rachael Carrollo of New Jersey, Terra Moody of Alabama, Meagan Winings of Nebraska, Allison Arling of Minnesota and Catherine Muldoon of New York.

Others among the 15 semifinalists were Breanna Abernathey of North Dakota, Magen Ellis of Texas, Lindsey Sporrer of South Carolina, Brooke Calhoun of Georgia and Alissa Reitmeier of Missouri.

Sarah French of Arkansas was the Photogenic winner. Ms. Abernathey was
Miss Congeniality, picked by her fellow contestants. The pageant was
broadcast by NBC, which co-owns it with billionaire Donald Trump.
