Penn powerJillian Parry of Pennsylvania was crowned Miss Teen USA on August 26, 2000, in Shreveport, La. The first runner-up was Nicole O'Brian of Texas. The second runner-up was Kristen Johnson of Kentucky. Other members of the top five were Casey Porter of Tennessee and Abby Vaillancourt of Georgia.

| Ms. Johnson also was voted Miss Photogenic. Ms Vaillancourt was the Clairol Essence Exotic Style winner. Shari Short of Idaho (below), one of the youngest contestants, was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow competitors. |
| The pageant had a modified "Survivor" theme based on the popular CBS TV show. Instead of calling the names of the three finalists, the emcee called the names of the two girls who were eliminated from the top 5 and they were excused from the stage. |

Rumored plans to have contestants vote on the final winners a la "Survivor" were not carried out, reportedly because of a rebellion by contestants. "There was an agreement among all of us" that that was a bad idea, "and they listened to us," the new Miss Teen USA said. See PNB exclusive profile, Page 4.
