Women on wheelsPhotos by Joe Whiteko / PNB |

| Marlon Brando didn't show. (Maybe his old leather jacket wouldn't fit.) But the power and mystique of motorcycles was very much in evidence at the 2001 installment of the Resaca Beach Poster Girl Contest. Contest founder Dan Bowen, who is almost as legendary as the beach itself, thought up the biker theme. It was a stroke of brilliance. Motorcycles and bikini contests are much alike. Both have a primal, powerful allure. But because there's a hint of naughtiness, some people pretend not to enjoy them. |

| We don't play those straitlaced games at PNB. We will tell you upfront that we like to straddle powerful engines, roar down lonely stretches of highway and feel the wind blasting through our hair. We like to watch girls parading in their scanty but perfectly fitted swimsuits. We like vintage wine, great art, philosophy, science, professional wrestling, old reruns of "Baywatch." We're well rounded. Speaking of which . . . Capri Hodge of Steele, Ala., won the contest. She assumes the mini-mantle that has rested on some of the shapeliest shoulders in the South. Did you miss the whole thing? (Maybe your jacket was at the cleaners.) Don't fret. There's always next year. |
