Beach babes

Special thanks to Dan Bowen

It has no sand, no sunshine, not even any water. But we like this beach. It's full of beautiful women in swimsuits, and they are what make going to the beach worthwhile.

Resaca Beach was hatched in the imagination of Dan Bowen. (The real town of Resaca, Ga., is nestled in green hills hundreds of miles from the ocean.)

Tenna Reed Cooke
The T-shirt was probably the most modest thing that Tenna Reed Cooke won as Miss Resaca Beach, but we like the design.

This mythical strand is the site for the very real Resaca Beach Poster Girl Contest, which Bowen created and which has launched the careers of many memorable beauties.

The contest ran annually from 1983 until 1995, then went into hiatus. Many in the pageant world feared it would never return. But in 1999, the girls of Resaca Beach took to the stage again, and the magic was back.

The winner was Tenna Reed Cooke of Chattanooga, who also won the right to compete in the Miss Hit the Beach Pageant. The first runner-up was the reigning Miss Hit the Beach, Jennifer Corliss of Cumming, Ga.

The second runner-up was Michelle Hill, the third runner-up was Mecalah Huddleston, and the fourth runner-up was Mandy Daniels. The fifth runner-up was Kelly Raby.

Yes, this is our kind of beach. Lots of beautiful women. And no sharks.
