Beauty for a cause

Neelum Noorani
Special to PNB

"It is time the world realizes that if we don’t try to preserve our environment, it won’t be long before humans will be a lost species and Earth will be history." This statement was made by the first official Miss Pakistan EARTH 2002, Neelum Noorani.

Neelum, a student of law and computer studies at George Mason University in the United States, always had a dream to make history, and she did it when she was selected Miss Pakistan EARTH 2002, the country's official representative at the annual Miss Earth Contest, where about 50 young women from around the world gather to prove their mental proficiency and grab the coveted Miss Earth crown.

Neelum Noorani"Her knowledge of law, ability at impromptu speaking and inborn attitude towards nature were the charming factors that made her bag the crown," said the franchiser of the Miss Earth Contest in Pakistan, "I believe she is one of the finest ladies I have met so far in life!"

She will use her new prominence to advocate world peace, to promote environmental education among the youth of Pakistan and the world in general, to try to spread as many smiles as she can and to work on eliminating poverty.

She believes in the principle of "Teach a man, teach a woman, teach the whole nation." In response to her victory on the national level, she said it's a dream come true to become an ambassador of environmentalism from Pakistan, and she feels honored to represent Pakistan at the Miss Earth Contest 2002, where she will have a chance to give the other delegates a message of peace and harmony.

She said it feels so good to know that she can promote Pakistani women before a global forum and show the world that they are unique and beautiful and have a total right to express their inner selves. She might become a role model for many beautiful women to participate in pageantry, representing Pakistan in its true colors.

This Karachi lass is multitalented. She is a good dancer and a good public speaker. She has the ability to perform in front of a large audience and is always open to learning new things. Her greatest inspiration is her mother, who is totally supportive of her.

She also has no qualms about working in Lollywood after her reign, if she is offered good roles, but right now her priorities are education and to prove herself as a perfect standard bearer. After a week's coronation activities, she left for the United States to prepare for exams. She will be back in town by March. She is truly a lady of substance.
