|An Arizona beauty queen, who has also worked as a law clerk, has been indicted along with three men in the alleged kidnapping, torture and robbery of her former boyfriend. Kumari Fulbright, 25, and the three men were indicted Dec. 18, 2007, by a Pima County Superior Court grand jury. She has competed for the Miss Arizona title twice, as Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun in 2006. The crime is alleged to have taken place on Dec. 8 in Tucson. Authorities said the 24-year-old victim, who had injuries that were not life-threatening, managed to escape after 10 hours of abuse and death threats.|
The Miss West Virginia Scholarship Organization has announced the team that will take over the leadership of the Miss West Virginia's Outstanding Teen Program, and it includes two former Miss West Virginias. The executive director is Jennifer Gartin. The executive producer is Kimberly Goodwin (Miss West Virginia 2006). The marketing director is Janna Kerns Jenkins (Miss West Virginia 2002).
Alicia Machado, who was Miss Universe 1996 and ran into some controversy during her reign, appears nude in the October 2007 issue of Playboy magazine (U.S. edition). The Venezuelan beauty, who is now a Latin soap opera star, was Miss Universe when Donald Trump became the pageant's co-owner, and the two quarreled publicly over her weight. She is the first Miss Universe to pose for Playboy, and readers of the magazine will be able to attest that she is in fighting trim now.
Veteran pageant emcee Jim Gibson and his wife, Chiann Gibson (who's also a renowned beauty queen, are expecting their first child at the end of January 2008. Ultrasound images confirm that the youngster is a boy. He will be named James Keith Gibson III.
MTV Networks has tapped comedian/actor/Latin pop singer Jade Esteban Estrada -- who is also a frequent pageant performer -- to speak in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2007 at MTV Networks’ headquarters in New York City. The annual event is titled “Latino History Month Panel Discussion at MTV Networks.” The event will be composed of employees from Spike TV, Comedy Central, MTV, VH-1, Logo and other channels under the company’s umbrella.
The Fox reality show "Anchorwoman," featuring a former pageant contestant working at a TV station, was canceled on Aug. 23, 2007, after one episode because of low ratings., The star, Lauren Jones, is a former Miss New York USA contestant and a "Barker's Beauty" from "The Price Is Right."
Chelsea Cooley, Miss USA 2005, has founded Stand Out Productions to help individuals in the pageant and modeling industries.
Former PNB cover girl (and former Miss Georgia USA) Lisa Wilson is the cover girl on the July 31, 2007, issue of Woman's World magazine.
Pageant star and PNB confidante Sallie Toussaint bares a lot (but not quite all) as "Babe of the Month" in the August 2007 issue of Playboy magazine. She looks spectacular, and her famed wit is very much in evidence. Also, in the Grapevine section, former Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera appears in a revealing outfit.
The newly Crowned Miss Utah (America), Jill Stevens, appeared on the Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor" on July 6, 2007. She is a sergeant in the Utah National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004. Before her crowning she appeared in a special feature at www.pageant.com.
Legendary pageant emcee Jim Gibson appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America Weekend Edition" on July 7, 2007. Our reviewer had not seen it as of press time, but an ABC representative told PNB founder Gerdeen Dyer before airing that the segment had gone well.
