The former boyfriend of slain Arkansas beauty queen Nona Dirksmeyer has been taken into custody and accused of murdering her. Kevin Jones, who reported finding the body in Russellville, Ark., in December 2005, has denied involvement. He was arrested March 31, 2006, and faces a first-degree murder charge. Ms. Dirksmeyer was 19 and was the reigning Miss Petit Jean Valley at the time of her death. The Miss America Pageant has announced that it will take the form of a seven-episode reality mini-series leading up to an eventual contest on CMT early in 2007. The reality portion will be called "Finding Miss America," and will portray the struggles of the contestants living with one another. This is the latest gamble as Miss America, once the gold standard of U.S. pageantry, attempts to reinvent itself. PNB will feature a commentary on this change very soon. Judita Hrubyova has been crowned Miss Slovak Republic Universe 2006. The first runner-up was Katarina Mannova, and the second runner-up was Lucia Gasparikova. Tatjana Batinic, 20, of Vienna was crowned Miss Austria 2006 on April 1, 2006. The first runner-up was 22-year-old Cathrin Czizek of Ottensheim, and the second runner-up was 21-year-old Timea Feher of Hörsching. Cynamon Murphy-Bosley of Arizona has been selected as Miss Black Teen America 2006-07 and will compete for the title of Miss Black Teen Universe 2007 in August 2007. Meanwhile, Kimberlee Borland has had her title as Miss Black Universe extended for an additional year. Jacqueline Fernandez was crowned Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006 on March 25, 2006. She will represent the country at Miss Universe. The first runner-up was Chaturika Ferando, and the second runner-up was Irosha Kurera. Cindy Wright, 19, has won the Miss Jamaica Universe Pageant. She will represent the country at Miss Universe 2006. Kenisha Thom, who was a semifinalist at Miss World 2004, has been crowned Miss Trinidad & Tobago Universe 2006. She will compete at Miss Universe 2006. Tineke de Freitas was selected as Trinidad & Tobago World 2006, and will compete at Miss World 2006. The first runner-up was Valerie Maharaj. Leslie Betts Woodward has been awarded the title of Ms. Classic New Jersey 2006, and Katrina Stier has been awarded the title of Mrs. New Jersey 2006 in the American Queen Pageant System. They will represent New Jersey in their respective categories in the fourth Annual National American Queen Pageant in August 2006 at the Club Med Sandpiper Resort. The first regional Miss Icon Pageant was held in Rockville, Md., on March 25, 2006. Anthony Stokes and Lyneshea Marshall served as hosts for the event. Folake Oyegbola of Washington, D.C., was crowned Miss Icon 2006, and Francesca Harper of Woodbridge, Va., was crowned Miss Teen Icon 2006. In the Miss Division, the first runner-up was Melanie Howard, and the second runner-up was Guilane Omanda. The third runner-up was Beth Zentemeyer, and the fourth runner-up was Marion Brezanski. Awards of recognition for the Miss Division include: The Photogenic Winner -- Marion Brezanski; Best In Evening Gown: Guilane Omanda; Best in Swimwear -- Folake Oyegbola; Miss Congeniality -- Melanie Howard; Overall Director's Award -- Folake Oyegbola. For the Teen Division, the first runner-up was Nicole Gray, and the second runner-up was Sasha Stepney. The third runner-up was Keily Collins. Awards of recognition for the Teen Division included: Photogenic Winner -- Sasha Stepney; Best In Evening Gown -- Francesca Harper; Best Swimsuit -- Francesca Harper; Miss Congeniality -- Brittany Jones and Nicole Gray. Hanri Van Schalkwyk, 22, of South Africa has been crowned Model of the World 2006. The first runner-up was Ana Carina Silva Carvalho, 20, of Angola. The second runner-up was Gantogoo Bayarhuu, 19, of Mongolia. The third runner-up was Renata Nowak, 20, of Poland. The fourth runner-up was Paula Tomic, 17, of Croatia. Alice Panikian has been crowned Miss Universe Canada 2006. She was also Miss Photogenic. The first runner-up was Ana Zotovic, who was the Best Hair winner, and the second runner-up was Angela Triantafyllakis. The third runner-up was Fanny Samaniego, and the fourth runner-up was Galyna Skrypnyk. Leslie Gauthier was the People's Choice winner. Abigail Lee was Miss Congeniality. Through an agreement made by Crowning Achievements, Miss American Queen 2006 (to be selected and crowned at the fourth annual National American Queen Pageant in August 2006) will represent the United States at the World Beauty Championship in Miami Beach in November 2006. This is an event with candidates and news media from 40 countries around the world. The Mid-Atlantic Regional American Queen Pageant took place on March 19, 2006, in Mt. Laurel, N.J. The following women won state American Queen Titles and will represent their states in the Fourth Annual National American Queen Pageant at the Club Med Sandpiper Resort in Port St. Lucie, Fla., in August 2006. Miss Pre-Teen New Jersey: Ashley Yuen; Miss Teen New Jersey: Joanna Polo; Miss New Jersey: Jeannine Rosolie; Miss Teen Delaware: Christine ("Krisi") Breternitz; Miss New York: Debra Klarmann; Ms. Pennsylvania: Lori Heleva; Ms. Classic Pennsylvania: Lynn Montemuro. Isaac Mong, a 27-year-old bank analyst, won Manhunt Singapore 2006 on March 19, 2006. He will represent Singapore in Manhunt International 2006 in Jin Jiang, China, on April 19, 2006. He also won the Mr. Charming Award. Clement Ong was the first runner-up and won the Mr. New Urban Male Ambassador award. The second runner-up was Sarah Gerth, 27, of Frankfurt, who competed as Mrs. Hessen, has been crowned Mrs. Deutschland 2006 in Rostock. She will compete at Mrs. Globe. At the same pageant, Marc Wilke, 28, of Tangermünde, in Sachsen-Anhalt, was chosen Mister Deutschland 2006. Yael Nizra, 18, has been crowned Miss Israel 2006. She will represent Israel in Miss Universe 2006. The Mrs., Miss and Miss Teen Pennsylvania International Pageants were held on March 18, 2006 in Altoona, Pa. Cheryl Cameron, who competed as Mrs. Conneautville, was crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania International 2006. The first runner-up was Lorin Zimmerman, who competed as Mrs. Latrobe, and the second runner-up and Photogenic winner was Cheryl Nelson, Mrs. Bellefonte. Becky Conway-Langguth, Mrs. Altoona, won the People's Choice Award. Kelly Sivec, who was Miss Johnstown, won Miss Pennsylvania International 2006 and the Photogenic Award. The first runner-up was Amanda Boyle, Miss Townville, and the second runner-up was Mandi Fargo, Miss State College. The third runner-up and People's Choice Award winner was Typhani Russo, Miss Logan Valley. Jenna Knopsnyder, who was Miss Teen Somerset, was crowned Miss Teen Pennsylvania International 2006. The first runner-up was Kelsey Landy, Miss Teen Connellsville, and the second runner-up was Valerie Gatto, Miss Teen Pittsburgh, who also won the Photogenic Award. The third runner-up was Marci Crawford, Miss Teen Claysburg. The fourth runner-up and People's Choice Award winner was Michele Sassano, Miss Teen Altoona. Neha Kapur was crowned Miss India Universe on March 19, 2006. Natasha Suri was crowned Miss India World, and Amruta Patki was crowned Miss India Earth. Katty Lopez, 22, of Guayaquil was crowned Miss Ecuador 2006 on March 17, 2006. She will represent Ecuador at Miss Universe 2006. The first runner-up Rebeca Flores of Cuenca, who will represent the country at Miss World. Tara McAvoy, 18, who was the reigning Miss Deaf Texas, was killed on March 13, 2006, in Austin when she was struck by a train. Ms. McAvoy, who had been preparing to compete at Miss Deaf America, was walking in the area and apparently unaware the train was near. A witness said the train attempted to signal the danger, to no avail. Kirke Klemmer has been crowned Miss Estonia 2006. She will compete at Miss Universe. The first runner-up was Kairi Rondo, and the second runner-up was Alissa Tsuprinskaja. The third runner-up was Ljudmila Kolosina. Candi Stratton, an entertainer originally from Chicago and now living in Melbourne, Australia, has been crowned Miss Gay Universe 2006 in Sydney. She performed in this year's Mardi Gras parade as Cher. Jacqueline Payne, who's a senior marketing major at Clark Atlanta University and the reigning Miss Clark Atlanta University, was crowned Miss Fulton County 2006 on Feb. 26, 2006, in Atlanta. She will compete at Miss Georgia (America). Her platform is breast cancer awareness. She was also the Interview Award and People's Choice Winner. Carra Patterson, a senior theater major at Georgia State University, was the first runner-up and swimsuit winner. Latoya Cooper, a graduate of Georgia State, was the second runner-up. Mathilda Adeosun, a senior finance major at Georgia State, was the third runner-up. Kymberly Sellers, a junior health care management major at Clayton State University, was fourth runner-up. Ambuyah Ebanks has been crowned Miss Cayman Islands 2006. She will compete at Miss World and Miss Universe. She also won Best Legs and Best in Gown. The first runner-up was Arleth Chiari, who was Miss Photogenic. The second runner-up was Jovani Hessing. Ceretta Harvey won Best Smile. Jhaneille Ennis won Miss Personality. Laura Everngam-Price, competing as Mrs. Eastern Shore, has been crowned Mrs. Maryland America. The first runner-up was Adrienne Watson Carver, and the second runner-up was Rashida Taylor. The third runner-up was Lorionna Miller, who was also the Photogenic winner. The fourth runner-up was Janie Hartman. The Congeniality winner was Chiquita Battle. Renata Langmannova, 19, was crowned Miss Czech Republic Universe 2006 on Feb. 17, 2006. She will represent the Central European nation at Miss Universe. The first runner-up was Miroslava Kostarova, and the second runner-up was Barbora Kolarova. Earth Pageant Productions has announced a pageant to select a U.S. contestant in the International Miss Earth Pageant, a fast-rising, stylish competition committed to environmental values. The U.S. event will be held in summer 2006. The winner will represent the United States at Miss Earth in Santiago, Chile, in November 2006. The Texas American Queen Pageant was held in The Woodlands, Texas, on Feb. 12, 2056. The Texas American Queens for 2006 who were crowned will represent Texas at the fourth annual National American Queen Pageant in Port St. Lucie, Fla., in August 2006. They are as follows: Miss Teen Texas American Queen -- Taylor Kilway; Miss Texas American Queen -- Chelsea Carter; Ms. Texas American Queen -- Angela Ingels; Mrs. Texas American Queen -- Jennifer Bennett; Ms. Classic Texas American Queen -- Wanda Jones. Jenna Stanford, 21, of Cordele was crowned the 2006 Georgia Watermelon Queen on Jan. 28, 2006. The first runner-up was Ashley Edge, and the second runner-up was Ashley Summers. Heather Hall won the Miss Jubilee Award, voted on by fellow contestants. Jessica Gordon won the Queen Seed Spit Award for spitting a seed the farthest. This is a pageant for beautiful girls who are obviously good sports. Natasa Pinoza was crowned Miss Universe Slovenia 2006 on Feb. 11, 2006. She will represent Slovenia at Miss Universe 2006. The first runner-up was Anja Slatinsek, and the second runner-up was Ramona Irgolic. Fabriella Quesada, 21, a medical student, was crowned Miss Costa Rica 2006 on Feb. 10, 2006. She will compete at Miss Universe 2006. Belgica Arias, 21, was crowned Miss Costa Rica World 2006. She will compete at Miss World. The Little Miss Cobb County was held on Feb. 4, 2006, in Marietta, Ga. There were 94 contestants in the beauty divisions, and 32 in the talent divisions. Proceeds from the event went to bolster the scholarship fund of the Miss Cobb County Pageant. Lauren Halford, Miss Cobb County 2006 and a Georgia Tech student, was the emcee for all of the events. Aaliyah Rucker was crowned Tiny Miss Cobb; Abiggail Rose Danielson was crowned Petite Miss Cobb; Kayleigh Guma was crowned Little Miss Cobb; Taylor Sierra Head was crowned Preteen Miss Cobb; Lindsay Walker was crowned Junior Miss Cobb; Brittany Greer was crowned Teen Miss Cobb; Jewanda Lanier was crowned Biljana Mancic, 19, of Split was crowned Miss Universe Hrvatske 2006 (Croatia Universe) on Feb. 5, 2006, in Opatija. She will represent Croatia in Miss Universe 2006. Emilee Ballaro was crowned Miss Buffalo 2006 on Jan. 29, 2006, in Buffalo, N.Y. She will compete at Miss New York. The first runner-up was Susan Casper, and the second runner-up was Amber Lindke. The third runner-up was Christina Joseph, and the fourth runner-up was Hargun Singh. The non finalist Interview Award winner was Veronica "Little Miss Sunshine," a pageant spoof, has proved a major hit at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Fox Searchlight has outbid rivals to become its distributors. Some reports are comparing the film's success to that of "Happy, Texas," a 1999 favorite at Sundance that was also a pageant The Miss El Paso Organization, an official Miss America local preliminary, crowned the new Miss El Paso America and Miss El Paso Outstanding Teen on Jan. 21, 2006 at Hanks High School. The Teen winner was Jessica Burns, a junior at Hanks High School and a dancer with the Silhouettes Dance group. The first runner-up was Adreanna Choi, and the second runner-up was Andrea Tellez. Other finalists included Lizette Valenzuela and Sara Lennard. In the Miss division, Tara Dusenbury walked away with the 2006 title. The first runner-up was Sara Choi, and the second runner-up was Marisa Lopez. Other finalists included Crystal Enriquez and Amanda Valdez. The following women have been awarded local titles for the Texas American Queen Pageant. They will compete for the 2006 Texas State American Queen Titles on February 12, 2006, in The Woodlands, Texas. Natalie Ackermann, Miss Nordrhein-Westfalen, was crowned Miss Deutschland Universe. Katrin Schwarz, Miss Niedersachsen, was crowned Miss Deutschland International. Fatima Funk, Miss Rheinland-Pfalz, was crowned Miss Deutschland Earth. On Wednesday night, Jan. 18, 2006, the second night of Miss America preliminaries in Las Vegas, Kristi Glakas of Virginia won the swimsuit award. She has also represented Virginia at Miss Teen USA and Miss USA. The winner of the talent award was Jennifer Berry of Oklahoma, an accomplished dancer. Vera Gafron has resigned as Miss Berlin. She has been replaced by her first runner-up, Elena Boga, in the Miss Deutschland Pageant on Jan. 19, 2006. For the first time ever outside Atlantic City, the Miss America Pageant begin its preliminaries on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in Las Vegas. The preliminary swimsuit winner for the night was Julie Marie Bachison, 22, Miss Utah. The talent winner was Erika Grace Powell, 20, Miss South Carolina. In a break with tradition, there was no gown winner, no interview winner. The 51st Annual Miss Kentucky County Fair Queen Beauty Pageant was held in Louisville, Ky., on Jan. 14, 2006. Miss Clinton County, Krista Ennis, won the title over 93 other delegates. The Miss Kentucky County Fair Queen Pageant continues as one of the longest and largest annual pageants in the commonwealth. Many of the delegates in the competition return year after year to seek the crown that so many other notable Kentucky beauty queens have won. In the last couple of decades, several Miss Kentucky County Fair Queen Winners have gone on to compete in events such as Miss Teen USA, Miss USA, Miss America and Mrs. America. Ms. Ennis is a frequent competitor in Kentucky, having placed as third runner-up in 2005 and in the top 10 at Miss Kentucky USA 2004. The runner-up in the contest was Miss Jefferson County, Ashley Miller (top 10 at Miss Kentucky USA 2006 and the 2005 US representative to Top Model of the World 2005). The second runner-up was Miss Casey County, Latisha Yates (top 15 at Miss Kentucky County Fair 2005 and the fourth runner-up to Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2006). The third runner-up was Margaret Ellen Correll (a former Miss Kentucky Teen County Fair Queen who is from the famed Correll pageant family, in which her sister and mom both competed at Miss America and their mom also competed at Miss USA). The fourth runner-up was Meghan Maria Elder, Miss Lexington-Buegrass. The remaining semifinalists were Miss Hopkins County, Kelli Elizabeth Rush; Miss Taylor County, Lacy Rene’ York; Miss McCracken County, Chelsea Be’Call Harrison; Miss Mercer County, Mandy Jenkins (first runner-up in 2005 and first runner-up to Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2004); Miss Robertson County, Ashley Nikole McWhorter; Miss Breckinridge County, Lauren Elizabeth Srewsber; Miss Western Kentucky County Fair; Mallory Pride; Miss Adair County, Chelsey Brooke McGlothin; Miss Ballard County, Amanda Jaylena Pittman; Miss Green County, Sierra Lashae Harper; Miss Henderson County, Erin Margaret Winstead; and Miss Allen County, Courtney Brooke Ballinger. Martine Jonassen, 18, was crowned Miss Norway Universe on Jan. 14, 2006. She will represent the country at Miss Universe. Crowned Miss Norway World was 17-year old Tonje Elise Skjaervik. She will compete at Miss World. Peta-Gay Lewis has been selected as America's Ms. District of Columbia US 2006. During her reign, Ms. Lewis will promote her platform of reuniting families torn apart from substance abuse with a non-profit, “Beginning the Journey,” which focuses on sponsoring addicts with a caring friend to help prevent relapse and encourage family reconciliation. Faris Attia, 25, has been chosen Mr. Iraq 2006. He will represent Iraq at Mr. World 2006 and Manhunt International. The first runner-up was Emre Yurdaour, 26, and the second runner-up was Soner Oguz, 30. Other finalists were Murad Demirici and Tolgahan Sayisman. Daniela Domroese, 23, of Erlangen, Germany, has been crowned Miss Sueddeutschland (South Germany) at a pageant in Dingolfing. She will compete at Miss Deutschland (Germany Universe) on Jan. 19, 2005. She is expected to compete as Miss Bayern (Miss Bavaria), representing the
