A beauty in others' eyes

Naomi Scott is a willowy California teenager who's getting into modeling and starting to win beauty pageants. When her red hair catches the light, it makes you think of a gorgeous Pacific sunset.

But Naomi herself hasn't seen a sunset in a long time. She has been blind since the age of 2. That makes her a very unusual beauty queen.

We've run across a few unsighted women in the pageant world. But Naomi may be the youngest, and she's definitely the most energetic. She's not just into glamour, but also snowboarding, swimming, equestrian acrobatics and photography. Photography! She once designed an item of clothing in her mind, describing it so well that her grandmother made it and gave it to her as a birthday present.

She's smart and kind of silly, like most teenage girls. At least that's how she was first described to us. She wants to be a top model, and to teach people about what matters in life. Can you imagine if that happens? You'll never hear the end of it. And that would be great.

It's a funny thing. Pageants are almost entirely visual. But Naomi Scott is nonvisual. And the two are a perfect fit.
