| A look you've got to likePaige Swenson of Minnesota has been chosen Miss Photogenic at the Miss USA Pageant. This should be exciting news for the informal sorority known as the "Class of '94," veterans of the 1994 Miss Teen USA Pageant. She's one of them. |
Miss CongenialityMichele Kaplan of Hawaii won the Miss Congeniality award. She plans a degree in business marketing and hopes to help make Hawaii the world's Number One vacation destination.

Hey, that's me!Some of the Miss USA contestants have personal Web sites, and some of those have their names as part of a "dot.com" address. Kristin Ludecke tried to claim kristinludecke.com shortly after winning Miss Florida USA, but she found that someone else had already snapped it up. It's a compliment of a sorts, since somebody is clearly betting that she will go far and that the address will become valuable. She settled for kludecke.com, at least for now. |
| Truly pricelessHeather Keckler has lived in Arizona just about half her life, and that's just about how long she has been in pageants. She started as a young teen in the Cinderella system, winning the state beauty title. Later, she won Miss Arizona Teen USA. Still later, she was crowned Miss Arizona USA. "It just kind of snowballed," she says of her pageant career. |
| There were no snowballs in sight when she competed at the Miss Teen USA Pageant in 1992, but there was plenty of weather to worry about. That was the year of the "hurricane option," when a huge storm bearing down on the Gulf Coast caused a change in how the contest was held. It was the year Miss Teen USA, Jamie Solinger, didn't know she had won until she saw herself being crowned on television. (If you don't remember this, see PNB's explanation.) | ![]() |
| Ms. Keckler remembers the circumstances of that teen pageant as "kind of weird," but maybe things were just happening too fast in her young life. It was the same month she competed as a member of Dance Team USA at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. (Did we tell you she's a really good dancer?) |
This beauty queen is on the cutting edge. She makes her living as an Internet entrepreneur, marketing products through her Web site. We won't mention exactly what she sells, but if you are interested in looking as good as she does, you might be interested. | ![]() |
![]() | Ms. Keckler once appeared on "The Price Is Right," a quiz show hosted by Bob Barker, the legendary former emcee of the Miss USA Pageant. She didn't get to know him very well. "I never made it to the stage," she admits. For all her talents, she came up short at guessing prices. But she got something out of the experience "Shampoo and a candle holder."
