5 finalists
Women aren't the only good-looking people in the world, and that includes the pageant world. On the last weekend in May 1999, some of the most memorable males this side of Olympus competed on a stage in Manila for the Manhunt International title.

The judges, all women, included former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz. They were looking for guys with stunning features and sculpted physiques. Of course. But like pageant judges everywhere, they also wanted a winner with warmth and charm, somebody with a smile that comes from within.

They got their man. Ernesto Calzadilla strode away with the honors, stealing a few female hearts and proving that women aren't the only good-looking people in Venezuela. The first runner-up was John Abraham of India, and the second runner-up was Peter Kerby of Denmark. The third runner-up was Kirk Hedley of Jamaica. The fourth runner-up was Liewellyn Cordier of South Africa.

Jose Daniel Cortes Romo of Mexico was Mr. Photogenic, and Ajiboya Delon of Nigeria was Mr. Friendship. Alexander Judilla of the Philippines was best in national costume, and Candido Torres of Puerto Rico was Mr. Personality. There was a tie for Mr. Popularity between Freddy Konnings of Curacao and Eddie Oh of Singapore. Mr. Oh was also named Mr. Physique.

The best in swimwear was Murat Temal of Macedonia, and the best in fashion wear was Mark Slater of Australia. Hu Dong of China was Mr. Talent.

One small step for a man. One big night for the pageant world.
