When somebody mentions tall girls, what comes to mind? Maybe you think of basketball. Maybe you think of modeling. Or maybe you think of both, and that means Kathryn Evans.

With Starla Smith, Miss United States Teen 2000.

This 5-foot-11 blonde is both a model and a basketball player, the kind of girl who looks terrific on the court but even better sitting next to you in the bleachers. The closer the better.

Though she lives in a small Georgia town, Ms. Evans has always gotten a lot of attention. In 1997, she was a runner-up in the Guess Jeans Model Search.

But pageants were never really her game. Or so she thought, until a spring afternoon in 2001, when she was crowned Miss Georgia United States Teen. It was the first major pageant title she had ever won.

That victory won her a trip to Orlando, and a chance at the Miss United States Teen crown. It also meant a new kind of two-track career path. While she pursues a degree in the medical field, she will also be forging ahead in the pageant world. Will there be time for athletics?

That's up to her.
