Two views of Kara Colquitt | ![]() |
| Sigmund Freud unlocked many mysteries of the mind, but one thing always baffled him: "What does a woman want?" Sometimes the great psychoanalyst would sit for hours in his Vienna study, puffing his cigar, blowing smoke rings and pondering the question. He never figured it out, so we won't try. But there are a couple of pageant questions that the sages of PNB are willing to take on. First, what does a married beauty queen need? Second, what does a married beauty queen want? We're using the lovely Kara Colquitt, Mrs. Georgia America, as the model for this exposition. (Unlike Freud, we like to illustrate our scientific findings.) |

| The answer to the first question is so obvious it is often overlooked: What a married beauty queen needs is a husband. Without the man of the house, that dark-suited dude on the wedding cake, she wouldn't be a married beauty queen. In the case of Mrs. Georgia America, the cake topper is a handsome fellow named Moye Colquitt. Handsome, did we say? Moye sometimes works as a model. |
| The answer to the second question may not come so easily, but if you reflect that this is a pictorial feature, you're getting warm. Yes, yes, what a married beauty queen wants is a photographer. Without that shutter-snapper, that pageant paparazzo, nobody would know that our married lady is a beauty queen. | ![]() |
![]() | And what's the fun of that? Mrs. Colquitt's favorite photographer is Moye Colquitt. Yes, the very same. He's sometimes a model, but mostly a photographer. That means Mrs. Colquitt has what she needs -- and what she wants -- in one man. OK, this is not exactly brain surgery. "Even Freud could have figured this stuff out," you are saying to yourself. But wait. There's an original insight here, something you haven't considered: A woman can have only one husband, but she can have lots of photographers. |
| To prove the point, we are showing you Mrs. Colquitt through the lens of two photographers. One is her husband, Moye, who has seen her adorable image in every light. The other is Joe Whiteko, the legendary PNB photographer, the man known in Vienna as "Sigmund Flash." Their styles are alike, but somehow different. Analyze them, dear reader. Study them as Freud would study his cigar. We're not blowing smoke. Pageant photos by Joe Whiteko / PNB, others by Moye Colquitt | ![]() |
