What is that knocking?Photos courtesy of Jennifer Hunter | ![]() |
| Being known for her looks is still a little uncomfortable for Jennifer Hunter. "I don't like being considered pretty if it means the stereotype of being dumb," she says. |
![]() | Well, it's too late to worry about that. Ms. Hunter is already on the beauty map. She is Miss Newfoundland and Labrador, and Miss Budweiser for her area. She made the Top 10 in the Canadian Search for Miss Universe, and she will compete for the Miss Planet crown. But if pageants take her far from her home in Newfoundland, will she choose to come back? |
| The scenery is spectacular on her island, she says, and the folks are so kind and friendly. But even though she doesn't say so, we know that the mist off the North Atlantic can sometimes chill a girl's bones. And when she talks about her favorite places, she mentions Texas, the Dominican Republic, Spain, "anywhere with a warm climate." |
| Sometimes, she dreams of being a star. "Everybody does." And you don't become a star in Newfoundland, even if that's where your loved ones are. So, what's in store for Jennifer Hunter? She loves her corner of Canada. But she likes the weather down in bikini country, and pageants can take a girl to some delightful beaches. She may have a choice to make. | ![]() |
| And what's that knocking? It could be her knees, if the mist is already rolling in. Or maybe it's opportunity. |
