We're not scientists, but global warming feels real to us. Each year, average temperatures creep up slightly. On some summer days, the sun actually seems to swell in the sky. Maybe this is the greenhouse effect. Maybe it's a meteorological phenomenon. Maybe we just forgot to take off our longjohns. But maybe it's the Miss Hawaiian Tropic International Pageant. What? Could beautiful women in skimpy attire, promoting a legendary line of sun care products, actually affect the Earth's climate? Could they melt the Antarctic ice shelf and make the oceans heat up? Absolutely! |
| They could, but we don't think they would. Because the girls of Hawaiian Tropic -- like HT founder Ron Rice and the rest of his organization -- are nice folks. Beauty and hospitality go hand in hand with this group. And every year, the welcome they give to PNB gets warmer and warmer. Or maybe the Earth is just heating up. |
The results: Shawn Cox of Los Angeles was crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic International 2002. The first runner-up was Liza Hernandez of Panama, and the second runner-up was Loredana Ferriolo of Italy. The third runner-up was Jaime Ordieres of Cuba, and the fourth runner-up was Tracy Stinnett of Bangkok, Thailand. |
