Finland used to be the place where East met West. Nowadays, the world is not so divided, and East and West can meet anywhere they like. But Finland is still a great place to meet Finns. (Best place we know.)

Three of our favorite Finns are Pauliina Tourunen, Queen of the World Finland 2002; Jenni Pesonen, World Miss University Finland 2002; and Hanne Hynynen, Miss Finland World 2002.

Ms. Tourunen is a pageant regular. She was the SummerGirl 2000 winner, first runner-up to Miss Jyväskylä 2000, the 7 Days magazine StarGirl 2001 winner and Formula Girl 2002 winner, to name a few of her achievements. Ms. Pesonen is not only a beauty queen but an economics student. Ms. Hynynen is a British-educated athlete whose best sport is "horse jumping." (We assume the horse does most of the jumping.)

Though these three young women don't look particularly alike, each has that indefinable quality possessed only by Finnish beauty queens.

Have you ever trekked through one of its Finland's fragrant evergreen forests? Have you ever gazed at your own reflection in a clear Finnish lake? If you have done these things, you can understand what is so unique about the pageant competitors of Finland.

If you have not done these things, go do them immediately. Then let's talk.
