| PNB: What kind of a relationship did you have with Ali Landry during and after the 1996 Miss USA Pageant? Boatwright: Ali's roommate, Jenny Craig from Georgia, has become a good friend of mine. We've modeled a lot together, and they were very close at Miss USA. I'd go over and talk to them now and then because both of them were very strong competition. They were both beautiful. You want to get in and know everybody and try to be friends because whoever wins, you want to be happy for them and you want to like them. I haven't talked to Ali after the pageant. I saw her at the Miss Teen USA Pageant and that's about it. I haven't run into her since then like I have some of the other girls. |
| PNB: Who is your all-time favorite pageant contestant? Boatwright: Courtney Gibbs, Miss USA 1988, from Texas. When I was a little kid, I remember watching the pageant and I just thought she was the most beautiful woman that I had ever seen. Of course, she's from Texas, and I was at a casting in Texas, and she was standing next to me, and I couldn't believe it. I looked at her and said, "Hi, Miss Gibbs. I'm Danni Boatwright." And she said, "I know who you are. You did such a great job at the pageant." It was just so neat to get the chance to talk to her. Then I said to her, "Ever since I was a little girl, you're my favorite Miss USA." She was just as gorgeous as ever and really sweet. | ![]() |
| PNB: Who is your favorite model? Boatwright: I'm not a big fan of models, but I'd probably say Kathy Ireland. I respect her morals and values. She is a wife and a mother and a beautiful woman. She still has an incredible body, and she is a good example that you don't have to lose your figure just because you have kids. She is a Christian, and I really admire her for the stands that she has taken and what she represents. PNB: Who is your favorite actress? Boatwright: I like Sandra Bullock a lot. She is kind of vulnerable. I like that about her. PNB: And who is your favorite singer? Boatwright: (Lots of laughter) I'm a big country fan so I'd probably have to say Garth Brooks. No, no , no. I'm just kidding. I'd be in big trouble if I said that. My favorite is Wade Hayes. PNB: Who is Wade Hayes? Boatwright: He is a really good friend of mine, a really close friend. PNB: How close is he? Boatwright: He's real close. We live very close together. (Laughter) I just moved to Nashville. We don't live together though. We've been dating for a year now, and it's pretty serious. He's a pretty neat guy. PNB: What qualities do you like in Wade? Boatwright: I always said that I would never, ever, ever date a musician, and he thought that he would never date a model, and here we are together. He's really not caught up in the whole business that he's in, and he is still down-to-earth. He's still a good country boy from Oklahoma. That's what I like about him the most, because I'm still a good old girl from Kansas. We don't forget where we come from. I like that about him. We have so much fun together, and he's such a man. He could build a house if he wanted to. He's just such a man about things like that. I just love that about him. I always feel secure with him. I just feel like I'm really safe. PNB: Let's touch on your spiritual life. How do your beliefs affect the way you live your life? Boatwright: I was raised in a Christian home. My whole family is made up of preachers and teachers, so it has always been a part of my life, and I've been very fortunate to be exposed to that at an early age. But I didn't find out for myself how much the Lord really meant in my life until I left home and traveled as a model at 16. That's when I found out how the world really worked and how different I was and my family was from that. I mean I was on my own. I could do anything I wanted to. That's when I found out that I liked who I was and I was happy with the person that I had become, and it's because of the Lord in my life and what He's done for me. I don't want to lose that. I've held onto my beliefs, and they're very important to me. It's something that I don't want to compromise, ever. We all make mistakes, and we all sin. That's the way we are, but I try to make myself as good a person as I can. The Lord has done so many wonderful things in my life and sent so many wonderful people into my life. I'm so thankful. I've been so blessed. PNB: What are your goals for 1999? Boatwright: I don't know what's up ahead, actually. The one thought that I had was to meet somebody who I really and truly fell in love with and was happy with and wanted to start a family. I'd really like to get married. I think I'm ready for that, and I have found that person. We'll see what happens. Hopefully, I'll be getting married this next year [1999], but I also want to keep pursuing my career. I have a lot of connections and there are a lot of jobs that I am "on hold" for and "on option" for including some big, big, big, big campaigns, so we'll see what happens with that and pray about it and see where the Lord leads me. PNB: What are your long-term goals for the next several years? Boatwright: I want to pursue the commercial aspect of modeling. I like to act, but I don't want to be an actress. I don't want to be in movies or in a sitcom. I really want my first priority to be my family. But at the same time, I've always got to have something to do on my own. I'm just that kind of person who has a little independent streak in me. I want to keep pursuing the modeling. I might even like to open up my own store in Nashville and cater to the stars there and do some styling with them. I've also thought about getting into fitness as an instructor or in videos. There are a lot of things that I want to do, and I really need to pick out one thing and focus on that. I haven't given up my dream of being a sports broadcaster, either, so there might be something in that field in the future for me. We'll see what happens with that, because that's my ultimate dream. |
