Colombia, heart of our world

Sometimes we don't notice things because they are right in front of our faces. Familiarity can desensitize us, blind us to the obvious. We know things -- we can ever recite them from memory -- but we don't feel them as reality.

That's how we at PNB have been about Colombia. The experts tell us that, person-for-person, Colombia is the most "pageant-crazy" nation on earth. Some countries may produce more international winners or attract more attention on the world stage. But Colombia has the highest percentage of contest participants and fans, the most contests in relation to its population.

We knew this. We knew Colombia was pageant heaven. But we never said it. Then these photos were sent to us sometime ago in connection with Colombia Moda 2006, an exhibition to be held in Medellin, Colombia, in July 2006.

The Colombian models look terrific, and unless all the laws of probability can be tossed out the window, these are pageant girls.

What can we do but throw up our hands and declare the obvious. Colombia is the center of the pageant world, the bull's-eye of beauty at which all the rest of us must aim.

So be it proclaimed.
