'Idol' dreamsPhotos by Benjamin Gibbs / PNB | ![]() |
| She's named for a grain. A wholesome grain from a plant that grows tall and beautiful. Her name is Charla Beth Corn. If you think that's a little bit funny, she's happy to laugh along with you. Miss Corn is very sweet. Her name would make her easier to remember, except that you're not going to forget her anyway. She's a beauty from the Texas plains, transplanted to the heart of Tennessee. She's a pageant girl who took root in show business. She's a singer, headed to Hollywood to face the grueling challenge of "American Idol." |

| There are a lot of entertainers in Nashville, where Ms. Corn lives and works. That's why they call it Music City. More than 1,800 of them auditioned for "Idol," auditioned for the chance to perform their hearts out and maybe be insulted on national television. Miss Corn, whose style is a blend of blues, soul, jazz and country, was one of 30 chosen from Nashville. She wants to be one of a relative handful of hopefuls from across America picked for the next season. When she competed at Miss Amarillo, she won Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality. Even with her Texas-sized talent and her Tennessee experience, she's going to need all that eye appeal, all that charm, when she's in "Idol" land. Stardom doesn't come easily, not even for the best of the best. She will need one more thing Luck. We wish her a bushel of luck. |
