A voice
for creativity

Caroline Mack, Miss Black USA 1997-98, was the first South Carolinian and the first Southerner ever to hold the national title. But her accomplishments and interests extend far beyond the pageant world.

Caroline Mack
Caroline Mack As a performer, she has covered the whole street of dreams. Besides lead roles in the operas "Madame Butterfly" and "The Marriage of Figaro," she has sung with Bill Pinkney of the Original Drifters. She is a stage actress, a dancer and a model, and has been featured on the covers of three magazines.
But her efforts to improve her community, her state and her nation are what make Caroline Mack such a memorable beauty. She has traveled tens of thousands of miles to promote artistic education, breast cancer awareness and programs to fight domestic violence. She organized the "Caroline Mack Legacy of Love" walk-a-thon for people with disabilities, and she now owns the Caroline Mack Center for the Arts in Sumter, S.C.Caroline Mack

Her latest project is her most ambitious yet. She is working to create a full-fledged performing arts high school in Sumter, focusing on "family-oriented" arts.

South Carolina has a reputation for cultivating the arts. (Remember Spoleto?) But the state may never have had a more determined and energetic advocate for the beautiful things in life than Caroline Mack. And she's still in her 20s.
