This event has attracted beauty queens and swimsuit models from throughout the South because of its high quality and prize money. It is based in Dalton, Ga., the world's carpet capital, and a poster of each year's winner is distributed worldwide.

The name of the event is a joke. The historic town of Resaca, near Dalton, is not near any large body of water.

The contest was canceled in 1996, largely due to the Atlanta Olympics. The event did not resume until three years later.
