| Ravishing young |
| Alysha Castonguay is of French descent, like many other residents in her part of the Ocean State. Her last name is pronounced in the French style, as if the "u" were not there. | |
| She got into pageants at age 2 and has had considerable success. She's a former winner of the Little Miss Scarlett Pageant, which doesn't sound like a typical New England contest. She's also a former Model of the Year, which fits her perfectly. |
![]() | In autumn of 2001, Ms. Castonguay's pageant career took a sharp upward turn. At the tender age of 14, she won the Miss Rhode Island Teen USA title. Now she's headed for the spotlight on network television, and maybe something even bigger. But back home, she's still doing the volunteer work she loves. She helps out at the YMCA, works with kindergarten children and takes part in fund-raising against cancer. |
| Her dreams are still close to home, too. When she finishes her education several years down the road, she wants to be an elementary school teacher. And somehow or other, "I want to be involved in working with animals." |
| | Far left, Ms. Castonguay helps with a fund-raiser to fight cancer, at left, she appears with her predecessor as Miss Rhode Island Teen USA, Amy Diaz. |
| Home and family and all creatures great and small. That sounds like an ideal life for us. But Ms. Castonguay may already be destined for other things. She's standing in front of the door to pageant stardom. And is that a key in her hand? |
